Drywood Termite Treatment in Bradenton — Confirm the Species, Treat What We Can Reach, Refer the Rest

Bradenton Exterminator handles drywood termites in Bradenton’s older wood-frame and coastal housing, where humidity keeps the pressure up year after year. A drywood colony works from inside the wood and gives little away until pellets start collecting below it. We treat the localized colonies ourselves and send whole-structure infestations to a licensed fumigation company.

Where do we find them? Mostly in the older wood-frame and waterfront homes: Palma Sola, West Bradenton, around Cortez, and in the older neighborhoods near the Manatee River. Salt air and humidity keep that wood inviting. The newer block subdivisions east of town see less drywood activity, though their trusses and trim are wood all the same.

Bradenton Exterminator does the inspection, identifies the species, makes the recommendation and performs any spot treatment. When a house needs a tent, we explain why and hand you to a licensed fumigation company. Call (941) 283-8194 for a free inspection.

Two Termites, Two Different Problems

We confirm the species before recommending anything, because the treatments do not overlap.

Drywood. The colony lives inside the wood with no connection to the soil and leaves heaps of hard, six-sided pellets under the wood it is eating. Treated by spot treatment, or by tenting the whole structure once the activity is widespread.

Subterranean. This colony stays in the soil and reaches the house through mud tubes it builds up the foundation, the slab edge or the piers. The fix is a liquid treatment of the soil or a bait-station system. A tent does nothing here: the colony is outside, in the ground.

If something that looks like coarse brown sand keeps reappearing in one spot, drywood frass is the likely explanation, though sawdust from wood-boring beetles or carpenter ants can look similar at a glance. Send us a clear photo or keep a spoonful in a zip-top bag; the inspection settles it.

Spot Treatment or a Tent: How We Decide

Spot treatment, done by us. When the activity is confined to wood we can get at, a door frame, a window frame, a length of trim, one joist, a piece of furniture, we open the galleries and inject either a labeled termiticide foam or an orange-oil product; a borate can go on wood that is bare and unfinished. You stay in the house, and the bill is a fraction of a tent job. The catch: only the colonies we locate get treated.

Whole-structure fumigation, referred out. The call when activity turns up in more than one room or framing member, up in the attic, or behind finishes nobody can open. Bradenton Exterminator does not fumigate; a licensed fumigation company does that work.

By the time pellets are visible a colony has usually been active for some time, and it may not be alone, which is why the attic and the nearby wood get checked before a spot treatment goes on the table.

If the House Needs a Tent

The fumigation company runs the job and issues its own prep list. The general shape:

  • Before. Everyone moves out, pets and live plants included; food and medicine either leave the house or go into the fumigation company’s special bags.
  • During. The house is wrapped in tarps and a gas fumigant fills it, reaching every piece of wood.
  • After. The tarps come down, the house is aired, and the crew measures the air; nobody goes back in until the readings clear.

The fumigation company sets the schedule. Because fumigation leaves no protection in the wood, a borate on bare attic framing afterward is worth asking about.

Documents for a Sale

A positive drywood finding on a WDO report usually brings a request from the lender or the title company for proof of treatment. When the treatment is ours, our paperwork names the species, lists the areas treated, and gives the product and the date; we can send it directly to the title company and both agents. A fumigated house gets its documentation from the fumigation company. If you need the inspection too, we do Florida WDO inspections on Form 13645.

Pricing

The inspection costs nothing. For a spot treatment, the price depends on two things, the number of areas that need work and how difficult each one is to get at, and we set it after the inspection. A tent job is quoted by the fumigation company, which generally prices on the volume of the house, and it runs well above a spot treatment. Either way you get a plain answer on which route fits.

Questions We Hear Every Day

Quick answers from our SWFL pest pros.

How can I tell drywood termites from subterranean ones?

The clues differ. Drywood termites live inside the wood itself with no link to the soil, and they push out hard, six-sided pellets that gather in little heaps beneath sills, trim, baseboards and attic timbers. Subterranean termites nest in the ground and travel up the foundation, the slab edge or the piers inside thin mud tubes. The treatments are different, so the inspection confirms which one you have before we recommend anything.

Which Bradenton homes see drywood termites most?

The older wood-frame and waterfront houses: West Bradenton, Palma Sola, around Cortez, and the older neighborhoods near the Manatee River. Humid, salt-weathered wood that never touches soil is where these colonies settle. The newer concrete-block subdivisions farther east see far less drywood activity, and subterranean termites are the bigger worry there.

Can the colony be treated without a tent?

Often. If the termites are confined to wood we can get at, say a window frame, a door jamb, a run of trim, a joist or a piece of furniture, we treat the galleries directly by drilling and injecting a labeled foam termiticide or an orange-oil product, and a borate can be applied to bare, unfinished wood. The method reaches only the colonies we locate, so the surrounding wood and the attic get checked first, and if hidden colonies are a real possibility we say so.

Do you tent houses yourselves?

No. Bradenton Exterminator does not fumigate. If the inspection finds termites through much of the house, or somewhere nobody can get to, tenting is usually the right answer, and we refer you to a licensed fumigation company. We explain what we found so you can compare their advice with ours.

What does a tent fumigation involve?

The fumigation company wraps the house in tarps, releases a gas fumigant that reaches every piece of wood, then takes the tarps down and ventilates the house. People and pets stay out for the duration, live plants are taken outside, and food and medicine go out of the house or into sealed fumigation bags. No one re-enters until the air tests clear. The prep list and the schedule come from the fumigation company.

Does fumigation stop drywood termites for good?

No. It kills the termites present at the time, but nothing remains in the wood to stop new swarmers from settling in later. A borate on bare attic framing and other exposed wood afterward gives that wood some protection, and we can quote that on its own.

How much will drywood treatment cost?

A spot treatment is quoted once we have inspected, and the figure follows how many spots need treating and how awkward they are to reach. It usually comes in well under the cost of a tent. The fumigation company sets its own price for fumigation, generally on the cubic volume of the structure, so ask them for that figure. Our inspection is free.

Can you supply the paperwork for a home sale?

Yes. Bradenton Exterminator performs Florida WDO inspections on the state form, 13645. After a treatment of ours you get a record of the species found, where we treated, which product we used and when, which covers what the lender and the title company ask for. A fumigation is documented by the fumigation company that did it.

Frass Piles Showing Up Again?

Call (941) 283-8194. The inspection is free, and you leave it knowing which path fits: a spot treatment from us, or a referral to a fumigation company when the whole house needs one.
